The original mall opened as the first indoor shopping center on Staten Island with over 100 shops and restaurants. The mall also had an ice rink (which has since been closed and converted to a food court), quite a few theaters, and a wide variety of stores that ranged from everyday essentials to very upscale clothing retailers.
Richmondtown also has the Staten Island Zoo, which is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
The Staten Island Zoo is home to over 300 animals representing more than 90 different species. The zoo was opened in 1898.

This historic landmark has 26 buildings, all of which are from different time periods in New York’s past between 1695-1910. The buildings house many interesting artifacts, exhibits, and antiques that people will surely enjoy exploring while visiting this part of Staten Island.
